Professional English Teacher Certificate (PETC)

The Professional English Teacher Certificate (PETC) is a comprehensive teacher-development program designed to transform English educators into confident, communicative, and effective classroom facilitators. This course equips teachers with practical strategies to improve their spoken English proficiency, pronunciation, classroom communication, and learner engagement skills.

Participants will learn modern communicative teaching techniques, activity-based learning methods, classroom English, vocabulary and grammar instruction, lesson planning, questioning techniques, error correction strategies, and student-centered teaching approaches. The program also focuses on building teachers’ confidence in conducting interactive English classes that promote real-life communication rather than rote learning.

Through hands-on practice, demonstrations, micro-teaching sessions, and continuous feedback, participants develop the skills required to create engaging and meaningful language-learning experiences. Upon successful completion, teachers will be better prepared to inspire learners, manage English-speaking classrooms effectively, and contribute to higher standards of English education.

The PETC is ideal for aspiring teachers, school educators, trainers, and language professionals seeking to enhance their teaching excellence.

One hour a day, Monday to Friday

An hour a day is a timetable a working teacher can actually keep for twelve weeks.

Taught in a batch

New batches open through the week. Admissions confirm your commencement date once you enrol, so you start with a group at the same stage.

Taught by Nishad Ahmed Brets through demonstration, micro-teaching and continuous feedback — communicative language teaching, the direct, translation and TPR methods, principled eclecticism, warmers and energisers, PPP against ESA, and teaching grammar to learners who have to speak it.

The Cambridge qualification

The programme prepares you for, and enters you to, the TKT — Teaching Knowledge Test from Cambridge English (Cambridge University Press & Assessment) — the three core modules, examined one module at a time.

Module 1: Background to language learning and teaching

The language a teacher needs to describe language: grammar, lexis, phonology, the four skills, and how learners actually acquire them.

Module 2: Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching

Planning a lesson and a sequence of lessons, selecting and adapting course material, and using the resources a real classroom has.

Module 3: Managing the teaching and learning process

Classroom language, grouping and pacing, giving feedback, correcting error, and the teacher roles that make a class speak.

Test format
Each module is a single 80-minute multiple-choice test, sat on paper or on screen.
How it is graded
There is no pass or fail. Each module is reported in Bands 1 to 4, where Band 4 is extensive knowledge, and each module you sit earns its own Cambridge certificate.
Entry fee
Entry fees are set by the authorised Cambridge exam centre and are paid there, in addition to the course fee. Admissions confirm the current centre fee before you enter.
