Getting here
Built around the commute
Ernakulam is a district, not a neighbourhood. The usual reason somebody abandons a course here is not the teaching — it is a 7pm class that cannot be reached from Perumbavoor by 7pm. So the campus location and the batch timings were chosen for that first.
From Aluva and Angamaly
One straight metro run down to Edapally, and the northern highway approach arrives at the same junction. The evening batch is timed to be reachable from both after work rather than only from inside the city.
From Kakkanad and Infopark
A short run west to Edapally. This is the single largest group in the evening batch — IT staff who write flawless English all day and lose the thread the moment a meeting turns verbal.
From Tripunithura, Vyttila and the south
In on the metro or the bypass. Weekend options exist for anyone whose working hours make an evening batch unrealistic on a weekday.
From Perumbavoor and Muvattupuzha
The eastern towns are the furthest out, and the ones the live online course was built for — same syllabus, same trainer contact, no commute at all.
What you get
A method, not a syllabus to memorise
TPR from the first session
Total Physical Response, developed by Dr. James J. Asher at San José State University: English instructions answered with a physical action rather than a translation. It produces speech early and it holds, because action-linked recall is stronger than passive listening.
VR for the situation you dread
A visa interview, a hospital handover, a stand-up, an airport desk. Rehearsed until it is ordinary. The classroom cannot supply the situation, and the situation is where people freeze.
AI on every attempt
Pronunciation, fluency, grammar and pace scored each time you speak, with the specific sound or structure that cost the mark named. One trainer cannot hear twenty learners properly; this is what makes per-learner feedback possible.
Business English for working professionals
Three days on meetings, email, negotiation and presenting — the four places where a professional’s English is actually assessed by people who decide things.

Answers
Spoken English in Ernakulam — questions people ask
Where in Ernakulam is the BRETS campus?
At Metro Pillar No. 366, Nelson Mandela Street, Koonamthai, Edapally, Kochi 682024, in Ernakulam district. Edapally is the district’s main road junction — NH 66 and NH 544 meet there — and the campus is on the Kochi Metro line, which is why it is reachable from most of the district without a car.
Can I attend from Aluva, Kakkanad, Perumbavoor or Tripunithura?
Yes, and most of the evening batch does. Edapally is one metro stretch from Aluva, a short bus run from Kakkanad and Perumbavoor, and on the direct route in from Tripunithura and Angamaly. Evening batches are timed to be reachable after a working day from those towns rather than only from within the city.
Are there weekend batches?
Weekend and evening options run alongside the day batches, and the three-day Business English intensive is built to be taken across a weekend plus a day. If none of the timings work, the live online course covers the same syllabus with a personal trainer — it is live, not recorded, so it still involves speaking to somebody.
Is this useful if my English is already decent but I freeze when speaking?
That is the most common profile at the Edapally campus. Freezing is not a vocabulary problem, so revising grammar does not fix it — rehearsal does. VR puts you inside the specific situation you freeze in, as many times as you need, with nobody watching, and AI scores what you actually said so the feedback is about your speech rather than the room’s.
Do you train staff inside companies in Ernakulam?
Yes, through the BEAS programme — Brets English At School. BRETS has run Business English and soft-skills training for HEDGE in Kochi, English for international patient care at Ilaj Ayurvedic Hospital, and teacher training at Ansar English School in Thrissur and Mount Guide International School in Kannur. Companies in Ernakulam can book the same on site.
What does the Business English intensive cover?
Three days on the English a working professional is actually judged on: running and contributing to meetings, email that reads as competent, negotiation language, and presenting without reading from the slide. It is short deliberately — long enough to change the specific situations that cost you, short enough to take without a fortnight away from work.
