Cambridge English TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) Modules 1, 2 & 3 Complete Exam Guide in India
The Cambridge English Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), awarded by Cambridge University Press & Assessment, is the world’s most modular, internationally respected test of English teaching methodology. Here is the complete breakdown of Modules 1, 2 and 3, how the 80-minute papers work, and how the 60-hour BRETS PETC programme prepares Indian candidates for Band 3 and Band 4 results.
Inside the Three Core Modules of Cambridge English TKT
Candidates often fail to reach Band 4 on self-study because TKT tests the precise professional terminology of English Language Teaching (ELT) applied to real classroom scenarios:
- Module 1 — Language & Background to Language Learning: Parts of speech, verb forms, lexical relations, phonemic script (/ə/, diphthongs, voiced vs unvoiced consonants, word stress, connected speech), reading/listening sub-skills (skimming, scanning, inference), and L1 vs L2 acquisition.
- Module 2 — Lesson Planning & Resources: Identifying main, subsidiary and personal aims; sequencing stages logically; selecting supplementary materials and visual aids; and adapting textbook tasks to mixed-ability Indian classrooms.
- Module 3 — Classroom Management: Grading teacher language; eliciting vs explaining; nominating; pairwork and groupwork dynamics; immediate vs delayed correction (finger correction, reformulation, echo); and giving formative feedback.

Open PETC Course & ModulesTalk to admissions- 60 hours — mixed — live classes, online and recorded sessions
- 3 months — 12 teaching weeks
- Mon – Fri — one hour a day
- Cambridge TKT — modules 1, 2 and 3
How the programme runs
Sixty hours of teacher training over three months, mixing live classes with online and recorded sessions, ending in the Cambridge English Teaching Knowledge Test.
Mixed content across 3 months — live classes, online and recorded sessions, and venue-based workshops where Cambridge or the exam centre ask for them. Not a video library you work through alone.
An hour a day is a timetable a working teacher can actually keep for twelve weeks.
New batches open through the week. Admissions confirm your commencement date once you enrol, so you start with a group at the same stage.
Taught by Nishad Ahmed Brets through demonstration, micro-teaching and continuous feedback — communicative language teaching, the direct, translation and TPR methods, principled eclecticism, warmers and energisers, PPP against ESA, and teaching grammar to learners who have to speak it.
The Cambridge qualification
The programme prepares you for, and enters you to, the TKT — Teaching Knowledge Test from Cambridge English (Cambridge University Press & Assessment) — the three core modules, examined one module at a time.
The language a teacher needs to describe language: grammar, lexis, phonology, the four skills, and how learners actually acquire them.
Planning a lesson and a sequence of lessons, selecting and adapting course material, and using the resources a real classroom has.
Classroom language, grouping and pacing, giving feedback, correcting error, and the teacher roles that make a class speak.
